Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- Accumulator
- a single bet that links two or more selections; all must win for a payout, multiplying the odds together.
- American Odds
- odds expressed as a positive or negative number (e.g., +150 or -120) showing the profit relative to a $100 stake.
- Asian Handicap
- a point spread that eliminates the draw by giving a half-goal advantage to the underdog.
- Asian Handicap Line
- the specific numerical value used in Asian Handicap betting, which can include half-goal, quarter-goal, or whole-goal increments.
- Bankroll Management
- the practice of setting a budget for betting and allocating a fixed percentage of that budget per wager.
- Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
- a wager that each side will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- an option to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss based on current odds.
- Correct Score
- a bet that requires you to predict the exact final score of a match, such as 2-1.
- Decimal Odds
- a way of expressing odds as a single number (e.g., 2.50) that includes the stake in the total payout.
- Double Chance
- a bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (home win/draw, away win/draw, or either side win) in one wager.
- Draw No Bet
- a bet that returns your stake if the match ends in a draw; otherwise you win on the winning team.
- Fractional Odds
- odds shown as a fraction (e.g., 3/2) that indicate how much profit you earn relative to your stake.
- Free Bet
- a token provided by a sportsbook that allows you to place a bet without using your own money; any win usually returns the profit only.
- Futures Bet
- a wager placed on the outcome of a tournament or award before it begins, often with higher odds.
- In-Play Betting
- placing a bet on a match while it is ongoing, with odds that update as the action unfolds.
- Juice (Vig)
- the commission charged by the bookmaker, typically built into the odds so the sportsbook profits regardless of the outcome.
- Moneyline
- a straightforward bet on which team will win the match, with odds adjusted for the favorite and underdog.
- Odds Boost
- a promotional increase of the odds on a particular selection, offering a higher potential payout than the standard line.
- Over/Under
- a bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) in a match will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Point Spread
- a margin of victory assigned to the favorite to level the betting field, used in US sports betting.
- Prop Bet
- a bet on a specific event within a match (e.g., first goalscorer, number of cards) unrelated to the final result.
- Rollover Requirement
- the number of times you must bet a bonus or deposit amount before you can withdraw any associated winnings.
- Single Bet
- a single wager on one outcome, with the entire stake placed on that selection.
- System Bet
- a combination of multiple selections arranged in smaller parlays, allowing you to win even if some legs lose.
